Biscoff cake
A rich, biscuit-topped choice with the kind of generous layering Tea on the Green is known for.
Food and Drink in Westward Ho!
A wonderfully characterful tea room where the cake cabinet is the headline act and the portions are every bit as memorable as the retro interior.
Tea on the Green is not somewhere you visit for a restrained slice of cake. The cabinet is packed with tall, inventive bakes and the slices are famously substantial. That sense of fun runs through the whole tea room, from the bold cakes to the walls filled with framed pictures, film memorabilia and collections of teapots.
The cakes are the main reason we come. There is usually plenty to deliberate over, and our photos show just how far the selection goes: Biscoff, Creme Egg and Toblerone-inspired creations alongside layered sponges, cheesecakes and other changing specials. A slice with a tea or coffee is enough to make this a destination rather than simply somewhere convenient near the beach.
It is also a proper Westward Ho! institution. Tea on the Green opened in 2008 and has built a reputation well beyond the village for home-baked treats, big portions and high tea. The location gives you an easy stroll to the promenade afterwards, which may be exactly what you need.
The headline act
The display changes, so choosing from what is in the cabinet is part of the experience. Expect oversized, highly decorated cakes rather than neat little portions.

The flavours change, but these photos capture the scale and playful style that make the cabinet so hard to walk past.
