Our review

Lounge is a chain, but a good one. We visit its cafés a lot, and Teatro is our favourite place to stop when driving south on the M5. It is close enough to junction 20 that it barely feels like a deviation, yet it gives us a proper table, a good meal and a more relaxing reset than the motorway services.

The menu is huge and genuinely useful when everyone wants something different. It runs from breakfast and brunch through toasties, salads, tapas, burgers, curries and puddings, with dedicated children's, vegan and gluten-free menus. We have found it consistently easy for a mixed group.

Prices are similar to what we would spend feeding everyone at a service station. For us, that makes Teatro an easy decision: much better surroundings, much more choice and a proper pause before getting back on the road.

The tuna melt toastie

The tuna melt is the order we return to. Served on sourdough with aged Italian cheese and fries, it is filling enough for the journey without feeling like a heavy motorway meal.

Inside Teatro

Teatro shares a building with Clevedon's historic Curzon cinema. The framed pictures, vintage details, patterned walls and dramatic lamps give it the distinctive Lounge look with a fitting touch of old Hollywood.

Why it works

  • It is barely a diversion from M5 junction 20.
  • The large menu gives almost everyone an easy choice.
  • Dogs are welcome.
  • Dedicated kids', vegan and gluten-free menus are available.
  • It feels like a real break rather than a refuelling stop.

Make more of the stop

  • Teatro is attached to the historic Curzon cinema.
  • Allow extra time to continue to Clevedon Pier and the marine lake.
